Update on Loons and the Chick(s)!
August 11, 2024 by Gene Klco

We have been to the cottage a fair amount, but it has been windy. Hard to get decent photos of the loons. Then a few weeks ago, all we saw from shore was one 'chick' - not a chick anymore, but a juvenile.

Loons-Looking at Me

One day, despite the wind, the loons were close by and I went out an took a few photos. They were none too happy that I was near (100' or more). Here you can see them looking at me and the male telling me to back off.

I took a few photos to document the single juvenile loon. Note how big it is.

CLose Up of Loons

Here's a closer (blowup) of  the pair.  I just don't know what happened to the other juvenile loon. It was nearly this big too and normally, a loon that size is likely to survive.
