Protecting Our Loon Chicks:
"It
is simply genius how Gene Klco’s gorgeous action photos tell the story of life
cycles, nurturing, and protecting. He has introduced the ‘predator/prey’
concept in a beautiful way, especially for young learners.” — Margaret Holtschlag,
2000 Michigan Teacher of the Year
“Our
children loved learning about the lives of loons through the beautiful
photography and storytelling in this book. Learning about the animals in an
accessible way ignited their curiosity, and allowed ample opportunities for
them to ask questions.” —Lauren Niemann, 2018 Kentucky Conservation Teacher of the Year
“Photographer
and author Gene Klco shares with the young reader the fascinating world of the
common loon. The story follows a pair of loon chicks during their first summer
as they explore and learn about their new environment.” — Carl R. Sams II and
Jean Stoick, wildlife photographers and children’s book publishers
Loon Chick's First
Flight:
The photography
in Loon Chick's First Flight is phenomenal. I purchased this book for my
friend's daughters who was visiting from Europe. Since they don't have loons
where she lives, she loved the photos and enjoyed the loon facts. It was a
great gift. Would recommend for kids. - Mick on Amazon
Great
story to expose young children to the magic of nature! Loved all the pictures
and the humor in the writing! Great read-aloud book for children and adults to
share! - W. Coburn on Amazon
Every
Wednesday I read to second graders in a high-poverty school. Normally it is
very, very difficult to keep their attention — often difficult to keep them
under control. When I read "Loon Chick's First Flight" they were
fascinated. These are inner city kids and none of them knew what a loon was,
and few, if any of them, have ever experienced the beauty of the lakes, water,
and wildlife potrayed in this book. It was my most successful book so far! - J. Cupper on Amazon
