I chose large sewer pipes – 4” diameter 10’ long and (6) 4”
caps to seal the pipes with. I cut the pipe into 3 sections. I also bought 3
large eye bolts and 3/16” washers and nuts for them. For the anchors, I used 3 plastic coffee
containers and 3 smaller containers (to weigh the buoys down). 6 medium eye
bolts, washers and nuts and 12’ medium chain round out the hardware. A bag of
concrete will make the coffee containers anchors.
After
sealing the bottom on the pipes with the appropriate pipe cement & drilling
a hole for the eye bolt & attaching it securely (add silicone glue to
seal), I poured about 4” of cement into the bottom & let harden. Then with a vent hole in top to let the air
escape, I glued on the top cap. After the glue dried, I sealed the vent hole
with a fat screw.
The
weights were made by pouring cement in the coffee can containers and pushing the lid on
with an eyebolt stuck through the lid with washers secured part way down the
eyebolt to make an attachment for the weight to the chain.
