Saturday morning I went
out, joining a couple others who were
taking photos of the loons from a reasonable distance. I got a few good
shots,
but didn’t want to over stay my welcome.
The loon parent was hiding
the chick under its wing.

Then they swam away
and the two chicks were visible.

This
photo shows the
loon chick that was getting a back ride, also getting a little ‘lift’
when the
loon raised it wings.

|
I went back to see
the later in the day. They had moved
farther away from cottages and the nest. I got a great family
photo.

Then
on Sunday morning, the lake as not as calm - the wind had picked up. I
was out
briefly and got a few good back riding shots, but gave up quickly since
the
wind keep turning my kayak around.

Here's
another angle with the chick looking at the camera. These all are
heavly cropped.

With the loons all but abandoned the nest and the third egg,
I felt it okay on Sunday to check it out. The red arrow points to the abandoned
egg. I grabbed it so we could verify if it was infertile or not.

The photo here is a link to a video of the loons taken with my iPhone
14 Pro. It was taken at max telephoto. Interesting, although not very
sharp.

Overall, it was a successful weekend trip. Time to let them
take care of their babies in peace. But I’ll be back next weekend to see how
they are doing.
