I
watched for them all day on July 4th, but they didn’t appear. So on
July 5th mid afternoon, I went and took the eggs off the nest. We
had to know the status of the eggs.
|
|
Carefully
drilling small holes in the back of the eggs, I broke out a small section of
the egg. There was nothing but yolk in them. The eggs were infertile.

|
So
I went back out to bring in the ANP and buoys. First I took the ANP to shore
and removed the cement block anchors and cleaned off the nesting material.
|
Then
I dragged it behind my kayak, along with the sign and one of the small buoys.
|

|

|
Then
I made 3 more trips to gather the last 3 large buoys.
|
When
I had all the parts on shore near our cottage, I got out the scrub brush and
scrubbed off the scum that accumulated on the bottom of all the parts that were
underwater. It shows best on the bottom of the floating sign where I haven’t
scrubbed it off.
When
everything was clean and dry, they were all put in our garage for storage till
next spring. |
